Hey guys, wondering if any of you currently have or have used any of the skid plates from Primitive Racing? I'm mainly looking for pro's / cons and any input before i commit and make the purchase. Since my Wrx didn't come with the factory plastic skid engine cover when i bought it, the header wrap is deteriorating when water getting on it when it rains and causing smoking issues like at this weekends dyno day. I'm looking at the Primitive Racing Street Armour full kit which includes a 1/8" skid plate drilled for oil filter and drain plug access, custom aftermarket header spacers, a 1/8" rear diff cover, their Stinger Tail cover that reinforces the oil pan & trans. they quoted me at $357 shipped and are very helpful with answering the several questions i had. www.get-primitive.comthanks for any input guys.

Running one for about 6 months now and love it. Heavy duty, great fitment, and lots of options for a somewhat low price. You can do a DIY one for cheap, but that's assuming you have access to a welder and a press break.

Lol, you can do a diy one with a road sign, a hack saw, a drill, and some all thread if budget is a big concern.
I also have a Primitive Racing skid plate I've been pleased with. My only complaint is the rear bolt near the trans strips really easily, so be careful. I would recommend getting it without the oil filter hole; the plate is only three nuts to remove, and you have better protection then.
I am of the opinion that Gorilla has the best skid plate solution, but you have to also install their lightbar to use it. Makes the cost kinda high if you weren't going to buy one now. Primitive's does the trick quite nicely for a lot less money.

i added the oil filter and drain plug holes onto the quote. one concern was if there were any noticeable increased under hood temps

You don't want the holes. Trust me. Shit gets up in there and it is awful. You'll still end up wanting to remove the plate anyways to do oil changes. It isn't that hard to do at all.
I run a primitive skid plate on my rally car, and it's dealt with a crapton of abuse. So literally rally-tested and rally-approved. It'll be fine for the mean streets of Chesterhood.
Just don't get the oil holes. Seriously.

I don't have an underhood temp gauge (...yet. I think I'm going to order some thermocouple wire here soon and just put temp probes all over the car for fun), but I never noticed any difference in coolant temperatures (and I had a readout instead of the stupid dummy gauge for a long time). Heat rises anyway.
