maybe we should just call this place Peru Subies
newb question: what does OTS mean? cannot find this out
i would imagine that putting a cat on could possibly tame up the psi readings you are getting now with the current tune. If you want to get it to work on a budget, id say thatd be the fix, even though it wouldnt run as well as a protune. At least you wouldn't be knocking though? thats just my thought

OTS is the off the shelf map.

Off The Shelf -- it's an "average" tune that will work for most cars with those bolt-on parts.

UPDATE: I now seem to be hitting pretty consistently safe boost numbers. I'm not satisfied, though, because I think the fact that it's warm outside could have helped that. The cat is getting installed monday, it arrived earlier this week. Then, I'll be hitting up TP for my e-tune, and all will be right with the world.
It's running pretty solid at the moment, though.

Nice, definitely hit up Torqued, Eric is awesome. My car is a monster, he does great work.

W00t!! Glad to hear things stabilized themselves somewhat. Let us know how the e-tuning goes! I know besthaticouldo has had the great experiences and I used an OTS map from them to help with my own tuning. I want to use Jarrad with PDX Tuning as he comes recommended by a few others on here too, but I've heard nothing but great reviews from TP so I'm DEFINITELY on the fence. Jarrad is a bit pricey but again he comes highly recommended as well. If the price is right I'll switch to TP! Wow that sounds weird. I use toilet paper for the record.

Got the cat put on yesterday, reflashed the Cobb OTS stage 2 + SF 93 tune. Gonna take it easy through a full tank to give the tune a chance to settle in and to fill the learning value tables appropriately, then I'll do some logs and see what's what.
I'm currently working on gathering the final pieces of the puzzle (Wideband and ebcs) before I contact Eric from TP for my etune.
Plus, I started looking for some wheels for my wife's Murano (she's all upset that her car is still stock and mine is all modded to hell)...in the process, though, I found a few sets I wouldn't mind putting on my car, lol. So I'm contemplating selling my wheels and getting some new ones. That damn mod bug sure is a sneaky little sucker.

LOL! Post up when you go to sell the wheels. I know a few people are interested if the price is right.

No, they're 17x8...
What is everybody's opinion on Rotas? I think I like the Rota G-Force in flat black with candy blue lip.

Glad things are starting to work out for you with this tune! As far as Rotas, I've owned 2 sets and have never had a problem. Some people will tell you to stay clear but I can only bas my opinion on what I and close friends have experienced.

Yeah, the tune is working just fine at this point.
I'm a TINY bit upset that the exhaust is so much quieter now with the cat on, though. I got used to it sounding so beast, and now it just sounds like I have a regular aftermarket exhaust, lol.
I suppose I could go catless with an EWG set up someday...but for now, I just want a reliable daily driver, lol.
Maybe I won't ever end up getting a new STi like I thought. I'm really getting into the Tesla Model S, and wifey wants the Model X when it comes out. I could actually see a possible reality where I keep the WRX, but turn it into a toy, and buy a Model S as a daily.
My mind is all over the place right now, lol.

Ok, so I did my first datalog with the cat in today...I've been through about a tank and a half of gas on the Cobb OTS Stage 2 + SF (93oct) NWG Map since the cat went in. Here's the log: docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnR4owOCcmM7dGFxOE5iay14MkNKdEVjOTE4dFp6Q0E&usp=sharingAgain, my future plans are to get a 3 port EBCS, PLX DM-6 SM-AFR Wideband, and Torqued Performance Stage 2 tune. Until then, I just want to make sure my car likes the Cobb tune. Thanks in advance for any input.

Can't tune worth a damn, but I do like making graphs. Hopefully this helps lower the bar of entry of chiming in. Boost Knock A/F Learning and Wastegate duty Your boost seems a little low for a VF-52, hopefully that goes up when you get the protune with TP. No idea what's needed to support that, though. Feedback knock is great, but I don't actually know what fine learning knock is. I've heard that most tunes have some, but your guess is as good as mine. EDIT: Apparently I had that backwards.

LOL! Sorry dude. Just got caught up. Your boost error is spot on and you're hitting good numbers so far. Can't say much about the FLKC as you don't have a wideband yet, so it's only speculation as to what AFR you're running at. Hold off on posting too many logs as of yet since you don't have too much to go on. Also, you might want to look into "fast polling" or something along those lines to get more data points. 30-40 points isn't much to work with when the time comes to start looking at logs. Not sure if that's an access port setting/issue or if you need to run Access Tuner Race to get more resolution (laptop logging instead of AP logging). Either way, you're not looking bad at 1 degree of knock. Run with that ROM for awhile and don't change any settings or re-flash. Drive normally and as often as possible. Then, I might be able to look at the learned values with my laptop. I can't read a locked ROM since the AP encrypts it, but I might be able to use Learning View to get a rough guess on your fuel trim corrections and stored FLKC.

I have ATR and a laptop...should I try to log using that? Or would it not help because I don't have the wideband yet? It will help with seeing how much knock you're dealing with and can get better resolution with other metrics. Though you still need a wideband to see what AFR you're running at. That number alone can say a lot about a tune. Indicator of EGT, final fueling, etc... If you're going to do 3rd gear pulls, have a friend with you to do the logging so you're not trying to multi-task and run into a highway marker or guard rail. LOL!

Honestly, I think I'm just gonna wait until I get the wideband to really try to dial anything in. I just want to make sure nothing is about to blow up, lol.
As long as nobody is saying, "Park the car until (problem) is fixed" I think I'll just wait for the wideband and TP tune.
I'm not sure about laptop logging, I've never done it before and I'm using my MacBook Pro with Parallels to run ATR. I'm not even sure it will work all the way, lol.

I'd honestly email Eric at TP and talk to him.
Even without a wideband he can tune your set up. It's a basic stage2 set up, nothing insane like an EWG, massive pump, E85 or anything. So it's pretty basic.
He's so worth the money dude, even more than a wideband. The stock sensor that the AP uses does a good job. I would get some pretty long logs, 30+ minutes of driving and some 2nd-3rd gear pulls to 6750. Send them to me and Eddie. We'll look at them. ATR is awesome if you're trying to log with a wideband or loggable sensor. But if you're just logging with your accessport just get some good logs with the following parameters.
A/F Correction 1 (%) A/F Learning 1 (%) A/F Sens 1 Ratio (AFR) Boost (PSI) Calculated Load Dyn. Adv. Mult (DAM) Feedback Knock () Fine Knock Learn () Ignition Timing () Inj. Duty Cycle (%) MAF (g/s) RPM (RPM) Throttle Pos. (%) Vehicle Speed (mph)
I believe you can log all that shit in your AP. If not and you need to log with ATR, let me know and we'll set up a time to do it. I have two laptops that have windows on them and I log with my older gateway, you could either borrow it for an afternoon or I could go with you to do some logging.
Honestly, email Eric and get a tune. It'll be the best money you've spent on your car.
