I'm not sure if the newer subies have this, but I know older ones like mine have a 'parking light switch'; The headlights are normally switched on and off with the key (that is, you can leave the headlight switch in the 'parking' or 'on' position, turn off the car, and the lights turn off), so this switch allows you to leave your parking lights on; It's also known to get accidentally flipped and happily leave the lights on and drain your battery. On my car (2000 Impreza) it's on top of the steering column.

i have the day time running lights so my headlights are always on but i have a switch that tuns them on full power and at the same time turning on the parking lamps. i can leave it in the full power position and turn the car off without having the lights stay on. also when they are on the day time setting when i pull the e brake the lights go off and/or switch off when the car is turned off. so there is no situation that will allow any lights to be on while the car is off. i was also looking at the battery and it has a sticker the reads subaru of america, so i am assuming that its the original battery or it was replaced by the stealership before i bought the car used. Anyway i am going to buy a new battery tomorrow because i suspect thats what it is.

I've also been tricked by the magic "drain your battery" switch on top of the steering column.

That switch is the devil. Took me forever to figure out why my lights were on one time.

Yup. I knew it was there and never even thought about it. I bought a battery anyway because the one I had was the original. Damn whipper snappers at waterway flipped the switch.

The only reason I remember it's there is because I've taken to using it when getting drive-thru after dark, and the wait's long enough that I want to turn the car off.

reminds me of my prelude. for some reason the passenger side window wouldn't roll up or down.... i hit the window lock button. didn't find that out until i had my door ripped apart and tested every wire and tested the motor
