The noise started when I pulled up to JPs house for the install day. It happens when pulling away in 1st, going in reverse, and when letting out the clutch in 2nd and 3rd. It doesnt change under load, or at different temps. Anyone know what this is?
EDIT: Just to clarify, its the whirring sound, the banging is my keys against the column.

Does the sound change with speed?
Might be worth it to put the car on jacks and let it idle in various gears to see if you can get the sound to come back and find out where exactly it's coming from.
Sense you said it only happens in 1st 2nd 3rd and reverse then it makes me think its inside the tranny. I have never had a Subaru tranny apart so I couldn't tell you what to look for in there if you decided to go that route.
Any changes to the car pre-noise?

It goes away after about 10mph, but makes the noise again after letting the clutch out after shifting sometimes, like you hear at the end of the video.

Sounds like a clutch problem.

Almost sounds like syncros or gear mesh has worn in and you have more play when the gears lock in. Would explain why it happens when engaging the gears (shifting) and especially at lower gears since the torque is higher on those gears and tends to wear them down quicker. Just a guess now. Like joellg said, it could easily be a clutch problem (worn spot on the spline/shaft, pilot bearing worn out, main bearing worn out, etc...). Like banis325 said, put it on jack stands and listen to the car at idle and in gear so you can listen for it. Could easily be a worn diff (front or rear) and the sound is just translating into the cabin.

Pretty sure it's the throw out bearing. This morning when it was cold I held the clutch halfway in and the noise was constant.

Awww crap! One little part and half a day's work to get to it. LOL! As long as it's driveable hold out until you can get a new clutch and flywheel! HA!

The thing that sucks is that the clutch only has about 20k on it, and isn't slipping at all.

What clutch do you have? Depending on how old and/or what mileage you have on it, it may be under warranty still if the throwout bearing is shot already. Most aftermarket clutches have the option to replace the throwout bearing too.

It's a spec. Warranty is expired.

Crap. Still, I believe you can get replacement components individually. If not on their site, you should be able to call their customer service, give them your model clutch, and they'll hook you up.
