When: Saturday, October 19th Alrighty. So we know xti is in need of an install day, who else? Regular Maintenance, Timing Belt (we've got two under our belt now, lol), upgrades, vinyl (hehe). If you haven't attended on of these before it's a great time to just hang out, get some work done, and learn some more about Subarus. We usually have some good food going as well (As it gets cooler maybe my wife will make some of her award winning white chicken chili ) So if you're down to get some work done, help out, or just hang out let's hear it! dkdunn04 - struts & springs @shsnick - dash removal scoobtube007 - dash removal

I will have Perrin TMIC, Grimm Speed EBCS, and I'll be applying a TP stage 3 tune as soon as we have those installed. MATT DAMON!
I also recently hit 30k miles, and I know there's some maintenance associated with that mileage...is that maintenance something I (we) should attempt, or is it better to take it to the dealer?
MATT DAMON!

If I can't sell my AOS I'll try to get it installed, along with engine mounts. If there's still time, I'll see if I can do the clutch slave cylinder "delete" thing too. besthaticouldo knows what I'm talking about. I have SS brake lines, but I won't install those till I save up for upgraded rotors and pads, possibly calipers too if I can ever get the cabbage for em. LOL!

Depending on the date I have some stuff I could use assistance getting installed. A different grill, kartboy short shifter & trans mount, eibach sway bars, perrin endlinks and AEM CAI. I think that's it for now....

....and AEM CAI. I think that's it for now.... Do you have a tune ready for this intake, or have someone to help you tune for it? You'll want to re-scale your MAF sensor, or at least verify you're not sending your fuel trims out of whack after installing it.

I have the stage 2 map downloaded to my accessport. That being said as a computer programmer I have been looking into open source tuning. I think eventually I will go this route, but for now will stick with the cobb maps.

... unless you really have the time to devote to learning how to properly tune every aspect of the car, i'd just as soon pay eric at TP or someone to tune the car. it's not worth the time involved, IMO. Cool, thanks for the heads up. With a 3 month old baby I definitly don't have the time to tune every aspect of the car...I was not positive what other possible options open source tuning could give you. At this point I have not needed anything beyond what the cobb maps provide.

I agree with besthaticouldo about the open source path. Don't go that route unless you want to REALLY get into the tuning aspect. You really need to do your homework if you're going to do it. Plus, you already invested in an AP, so you might as well use it since it's not compatible with the Open Source apps (ECU Flash, Rom Raider, etc...). As far as the CAI upgrade and what not. I would still log/tune for it just in case. Just because one person ran fine with it, doesn't mean you will. Engines have their own "personality" as I've come to find out and some have different "temperaments" to changes than others. besthaticouldo ran fine with his, but you may see knock or have MAF fluctuations that need to be adjusted to keep your fuel trims in check. You can slap it on there and PROBABLY be ok, but it never hurts to do some logs and verify your changes. Plus, the more you tweak the better the results can be. The base OTS maps from Cobb are ok, but there's always room for improvement. Especially with the notion that each engine has it's own temperament. If you have questions about tuning and/or want some guidance do some reading in the ECU tuning section of the forum, follow the links provided, and if you have any questions please ask away! There's no stupid questions with this stuff. When a $20k+ car is at stake, all questions are welcome!

I'm running the AEM intake on the 09 with the Stage 1 map. I might have you take a look at the logs next time I see you Eddie and see what you think.

Cobb Accessport offers a map specifically for the AEM intake...just download it off Cobb's website and you are G2G. As far as whether or not it's ok to run on a stock engine without a tune specifically for the AEM intake........who cares? There is a free tune for it on Cobb's website. Why anyone with an AP would run the AEM intake without the free available tune from Cobb is beyond me. Download map > Install AEM > Load map > Smile and be happy ...Well now I feel silly... Anywho, so you're in for install day, Brian?

I'd just like to point out that you can try open source for free if you can find a tactrix to borrow and you have a laptop. No reason not to at least download the software and poke around at some maps and see if you think you could get into it or not. Also, for a 2008 WRX, there is an excellent starting point here. My tune is based off that one, with slight modifications for the lack of cats. Speaking of, I need to grab his latest revision and compare it to my tune. And buy my own tactrix. andystl - For things OS offers that Cobb doesn't: does the Cobb OTS map have a linear-ish throttle? My open source tune has a pretty different throttle response iirc that makes it a little easier to control the power output.

Depending on the date I know I would come and help. Do people bring their significant others to these? My wife is going stir crazy at the house with the baby, and would like some other women to talk to.

My wife usually likes it when there is someone to talk to as well at the install days.

That happens with any intake, I think. Part of what makes drag racing and autocross so hard on coolant systems. There's a lot you can do to help, unfortunately none of it comes cheap or easy. Easiest thing to do it probably wrap your downpipe, get a turbo blanket, and wrap your intake.

Ok, I have in my greasy little fingers the TMIC and the EBCS...all that's left is to purchase the tune. Then install day needs a date on it. I was thinking maybe before the Midnight Madness at Gateway on Oct. 25? That way I can run my new beast and get some 1/4 mile times before the clutch starts slipping, lol.
