I think this is probably the best place for this...I'm working on an audio build for my car since the stock set up sucks major dongs. Few major things I want out of this set up. 1. Crisp, clean bass 2. Good sound quality 3. OEM appearance 4. Bluetooth and navigation 5. Quality components that will last My budget for the remainder of this build is around 1k. So far I have an Alpine 6 channel amp I got in trade as well as a 12" Image Dynamics sub I got in the same trade. I've done quite a bit of research on headunits and was resolved to not have a navigation unit until I saw a thread on NASIOC about a headunit offered in the Canadian STi. This Thread So the AVIC-X9310BT will be the headunit I go with. It has nav, bluetooth, traffic, etc. Everything I want. PLUS it fits the OEM appearance. As far as speakers I have been digging around on DIYMA and talking to rsutton a lot (running competition set up in his hatch) and him and I decided to run the highest version Massive Audio speakers. Massive RK6 Components will be run in the front and Massive RX6 Coaxials will be the rear fill speakers. Sound quality is amazing and they will do everything I need them to and more. To complete the OEM experience I will be running an Audio Integrations stealth sub box in the trunk. It is more than I wanted to spend, but I don't want to go through the hassle of building a box and all that shit. So this is the best way to get the cleanest look, also leaves most of the trunk space there for you. Sound deadening - I hate that our car feels like a tin can inside, when you shut the doors, when it rains, the car just feels like there's nothing to it. So I will be running 100 sq ft of the B-quiet extreme in the doors, trunk, and roof. Under the carpet and on top of the extreme in the trunk I'll be laying down about 36 sq ft of B-quiet vComp. I am also thinking about fully sealing the doors to help with sound quality, but that may just be taking it a bit too far. I'll be taking pics and adding info as I go.

Also debating building a trunk set up like this I would be too worried about putting stuff in my trunk, I can just imagine what all my photography gear or even groceries would do to that sub.

There is a fiberglass sub box that you can do that fits in behind the tail light against he wall. those are the cleanest for subies in my opinion.
Sounds like a great build so far. i love that pioneer in dash too.

That's the audio integrations box. Supposedly it's awesome and provides great sound and the fit is amazing. Problem is it's $350 + shipping.

Problem with those tail-light centric boxes is the drivers face you vs. being at the back of the rear seat and firing back/reflecting to the front. Not that it makes THAT big of a difference, but make sure you build a box that takes advantage of the enclosure and not just the fit in the trunk. If you're looking for sound quality that is. Subs that face forward towards the passenger compartment can be a bit washed out and don't produce the full range of sound/sub-level bass they're intended for when facing toward you. The goal is for the enclosure and the rest of the area around the speaker/driver to "resonate" or reproduce the sound toward you vs. forcing the speaker/driver to do all the work which is what a lot of forward-facing systems do. It all depends on what you want, fit & finish or sound clarity. Regardless you're going to make a sacrifice on one or the other depending on how in-depth you get with the build. Either way, sounds like you've done a LOT of homework and are on your way to a great build. Hope it all goes well!

Story, would you be interested in helping me build a box? I've honestly never done car audio. All of my cars before this were MB Quart speakers and Alpine headunits with a 2 channel amp just running the fronts. So really basic.

If you two don't mind me tagging around, I'd love to "help" out and see the process. I've always loved audio design in general and never had the opportunity or skill to give it a go myself. I can do bitch-work or just stay out of the way and let the pros handle it. I'd honestly be honored just to stand and watch as long as I don't get in the way or annoy you guys.

I've taken apart a depressing amount of the interior at this point for how little interior modding I've done if you need any help tucking wires.

If you go with a home build fiberglass box let me know if you want any help. Have laid up several different types for fiberglass, carbon, and kevlar in the past. Also if you do, research and order resin and harder online, the stuff at auto parts stores and Walmart offer a very little working window when mixed right. I always liked the appearance of your original idea but I never did it before with my set ups out of fear of something damaging the sub. I had a old grand am that ran 2 alpine type rs that could blow the trunk open, that was a fun car.

I will definitely probably need your help. I am going to take a picture of the bare trunk and in paint I'll probably mock something up to show.
