Going to try & install an Invidia downpipe on my 08 WRX this week, probably tomorrow looking at the weather forecast. Any pointers or suggestions? I have two new gaskets & a can of PB Blaster ready. I have read that it is much easier if you remove the tmic, but that it can be a pain in the arse to get back on. If anyone is bored I could use a hand from someone who knows what they are doing... I'll buy the pizza & beer!

Probably wouldnt be able to help tomorrow, but if the DP is anything like the one on the GD taking off the TMIC is a waste of time. You can get to a few of the nuts on the turbo from the top, and the others from the bottom. Where do you live?

I am in South City close to Bevo Mill @ the intersection of Morganford & Gravois.

Pretty sure we didn't need to take my TMIC off for it either. A little bit of work on top and a little under and should slide off fairly easy.

TMIC is unnecessary to remove on the 08 wrx, but it's also pretty much cake to put back on if you find you'd like the extra room/leverage.
I do recommend having someone below and someone on top to do it as fast as possible, but otherwise it's pretty easy.

Your probably going to break the down stream bolts, they are the ones with the springs. Also if anything is wrapped in header wrap wear long sleeves and gloves!

You will probably break a bolt somewhere on the downpipe, have extras.
Use extenders or breaker bars to get the bolts loose.
Two people makes it 5,000% easier.
You don't have to take off the intercooler. I didn't take it off the FXT, I did take it off the WRX. Doesn't really matter.

All was going well until I got to the two of the "bolts" on either side of the turbo to down pipe connection. 3 of the 5 bolts were normal with a head on one side and a nut on the other side. The other two bolts were just a threaded bolt with no head and a nut on one side. Is this normal? If so how do I get the headless bolt out? I could try to use a vice grip but I would ruin the threads, not that it really matters. If they would have been 5 normal bolts I would be done, I was surprised how easily the other 3 came loose after some bp blaster.

Those two "bolts" do not come out, they are studs attached to the turbo. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THEM. The dp should slide right off of them once you get the nuts off. If it's not moving, make sure you got the hidden nut where the dp attaches to the transmission.

Finally got this thing installed yesterday morning. Thanks for the info XTI, I would have ruined the studs attached to the turbo had I not seen that. Finally stage 2... now onto suspension, then brakes.
