I just find it entertaining that no one on the site and take a joke, Jesus Christ this is already looking like "the other forum".

I agree with @shisnick, but let's get one thing straight: the 08+ chassis works perfectly well as a rally car. It also works great for autocross, rallycross, tarmac track events, and road rally if you really want to. As much as I enjoy cmartise's jab, I'd prefer to broaden it to "if you're not doing something with your subaru, you bought the wrong car." I'm glad to report that we're all using our cars. Now go sign up for autocross if you're not wanting to take your car off pavement :-P

Sarcasm is hard to read when it's in text form. No worries dude! We're all good. I hope.

I take my car on pavement, gravel, dirt, mud, grass, snow, drag strips, ditches, and water every now and then.

I do undertand though for besthaticouldo having build primarily a daily show car not wanting to touch gravel. I personally would not have went that route with a wrx, but its what he wanted. I'm just wishing we had more openness to gravel cruises by other members or helping get the rallyx going again so the people that do want to beat on their cars can in a non tarmac atmosphere. And just to throw it out there, to those thinking rallying is cheap, talk to your local teams. I have the least prepared subaru in the stl area and its still got 10k dumped into it. Its just as big of a commitment in it as your dds.

besthaticouldo has an autocross/dd build iirc. Car is Fuubing faaaast. We've had an official gravel cruise this year, plus the IL cruise, right? I haven't made either of them :-( God I want to see rallyx go again in stl.

cmartise - i know it's not cheap. but most of their platforms don't start with a 2 year old 25-27k car...
btw. i have 10k in my suspension, wheels, tires, and brakes. i'm not one to start throwing how much money you have dumped into the car. it's also a low 12 second car and pretty damn fast at autox. was the 2nd fastest subaru last autox i was at. and i daily it with kids and everything. it's an all purpose built vehicle, just not for destroying vehicles that I daily on gravel and offroad. not saying it's not fun. i had jeeps that i loved, absolutely loved the shit out of them. but my subaru is not made for that.

Gravel cruise happened right after I signed up on here so didn't get a chance to make it. Also missed the il cruise but that's farther than I want to take the rally car due to mpg and its just annoying loud for that long without a helmet to help muffle the sound.

The biggest problem is that there aren't any good roads in the city, so we have to go out of the city to find anything. Both the IL cruise and the Washington cruise were <70 mi round trip if the google maps are loading correctly for me. We try to start on the edge of well-populated areas so everyone can top off their tanks before heading out. cmartise and besthaticouldo: Feel free to design or plan out a cruise -- you wouldn't have to organize or lead it, we just need more route ideas for the library JP is trying to build.

And just to throw it out there, to those thinking rallying is cheap, talk to your local teams. I have the least prepared subaru in the stl area and its still got 10k dumped into it. Its just as big of a commitment in it as your dds. I really didn't mean to make it sound like the newer WRX/STi isn't a good rally/race platform, I just meant that it is not made that way from the factory, and it already costs more than it would cost to build a rally car using an older model to start with. In fact, we're all arguing the same point in that regard. It IS expensive to rallyx. You've put $10k into your rally vehicle. All in, the average person in your situation will have spent $15k including purchasing the car. Imagine if you started with a $30k car, then add the $$ for parts...but wait, parts, prep, maintenance, and repair for a GR is more expensive than the older models...so add $15k instead. Now we're at $45k to prep my car to match yours at $15k. That's a pretty big difference. If I was going to race (rallyx, autox, etc.) regularly, I wouldn't have bought a brand new car. But I had no intention of racing my dd, and I have too many other expensive hobbies to buy two cars and make one of them a toy. I mean, I've spent $20k in music equipment, $14k in photo/video equipment, $3k in bicycling, and put several thousand dollars into starting a non-profit org just in the last 2 years...all while saving up for a house. Extra money for racing or another car just isn't there, unfortunately. I'm all for going on an adventurous cruise, but the last thing I want to do is have to pay for paint or dent repairs on a car that's already costing a decent amount of cash every month. I instead decided to buy a brand new car that would be fun and reliable to drive to and from work everyday. I know that's a sad existence for a Subaru, but it would be a sadder existence for me if I had to drive a lame ass car to work, lol. It really is hard to judge tone and sarcasm and stuff on the interwebz, but I really wasn't feeling any animosity, just some misunderstanding and perhaps one sided perspective. All that said, I bet your rally car is a freakin blast to drive on a course.

Any word on the location of this? I've been going through some maps and plan on getting the test runs done this weekend. Looking at two separate locations. One would be a new route through winery area and near to Washington, MO then circling back to Manchester Rd. The other is north of Lake St. Louis. Maps can only show so much, so I'll have to make sure there are decent roads, low residential traffic, etc.

It depends on location. Winery area, no, the earlier you get out of particular parts of that the better, otherwise the whole cruise could then be stuck in traffic and there is a higher risk of becoming broken up during the run. As we saw with the last Washington cruise, traffic definitely was more frequent than when we previously ran it (previously we left the starting area before 11am). Also, once the winery shuttles start, its all over.

( Could take off tho) I really haven't had much of a chance to take the BRZ out on many fun roads yet...

So if you do have to ask off you should have more than enough time to do so. By what ive heard the Brz handles amazing, so if you don't have the biggest smile on your face by the time we are done then ill be more than glad to accept your car as a donation! ;P

My wife and I really want to make the next cruise. I just bought a used Cusco adjustable rear sway bar I would like to get installed before. I'm sure I could do it, but I'd like to install with everyone. Maybe if there is an install day before the cruise we can get up there to hang out and really meet everyone before the cruise.

You know what. That's not a bad idea. Not a bad idea at all.
By the way all, the cruise will be Saturday September 21. Route to be posted shortly. Install day thread to be made soon.
