Well, it's a few weeks off from a new month, but it's never too late to plan for another cruise. This whole route has yet to be determined, but as usual, need to get some voting going for the date of the cruise. I'll leave the poll up for a couple weeks and update this thread with some route information in the meantime. Probably will be the standard departure time (10AM-11AM). ------------------ Sunday September 29 Meeting at 10:30AM at Francis Howell High School Leaving at 11:00AM Route:goo.gl/maps/Ce5Hy Attending

There are some good roads west of Columbia that Liz and I take sometimes.
And since we might as well keep going to Columbia when we're headed all the way out to JP's...

I was thinking full gravel, multiple water crossings, dirt and sand, maybe some really high speed racing and/or gymkhana thrown in there too? All on public roads of course Nah, no more of that IL side stuff until we get a good chance to do some more scouting and make some notes of the roads. I'm working on coming up with a new route for this cruise. Pavement, good to decent roads, no ferry crossing, minimal highway (if any). Maybe a food stop in there, but probably not. Photo stops maybe if there is room.

i'd be seriously down for a backwoods drive out to a place to eat and a drive back. a good enough restaurant is worth the gas. nothing more than 150 miles round trip.

I'm really hoping to be involved in a cruise where the average speed is 95mph and there are numerous blind turns in the rain, snow, mud, or gravel.
The more stoplights the better, so we can street race the entire cruise, and hopefully someone will break an axle or drive shaft...or at the very least toast a clutch.
My philosophy is this: If you don't put at least 10 new baseball sized dents in your $20k-$30k daily driver every time you go on a cruise, you're doing it wrong.
Seriously though, I hope to make this one, and I couldn't agree more with what besthaticouldo has said regarding dirt/gravel/ferries/fairies/150mi round trip/etc...

Just don't understand why every one is a little scared of dirt. If you don't want to take a Subaru on dirt, you bought the wrong car.

Because paint and dent repair is expensive.
Also, I didn't really mean to say I wouldn't drive on DIRT. I meant loose gravel or something that would damage my car. I need mud flaps.

DIY mudflaps 20 bucks from oriellys. I will not turn some down if they should appear on my door step. However, as far as me making them myself, "Ain't nobody got time fo dat!"

Sorry, I spend about 10 hours a month keeping my paint swirl and as scratch free as I can. I spent 25k on a street car. If I wanted a rally car I would have spent 4k and bought a bugeye to rally and drive off road. The new WRX/STi is not a rally car and doesn't have the rally pedigree. It is what it is.
As for you insinuating I bought the wrong car, no I didn't. My car is still brand new, still pretty dent free and the paint is pretty flawless for a Subaru black. I don't want to prematurely destroy my vehicle, that I pay for and I work for. Thanks though. You wanna rally, more power to you, but don't make it out like we're the black sheep for not doing it. I like my car shiny and clean.

I like my car shiny and clean. For once I didn't take the time to rant my feelings, but since the can has been opened.... For serious. If my car was undeniably made to rally race, worth less than $5k, paid off, not my daily driver, and already had 10+ years of paint chips and door dings I wouldn't care about a little gravel. Honestly, even now when I drive on a gravel road with my car I kinda wish I could just throw it into a corner with dust and rocks flying everywhere. But the reality is that's not why I bought my car. Besthaticouldo is right, the new WRX/STi is not a rally car, it's a $25k-$40k family car with a performance oriented drivetrain. I'm pretty sure that's part of the reason so many "die hard" Subaru fans hated them when the GRs came out. Why the hell would I beat the crap out of a brand new car? I'm not a millionaire, I didn't win the lottery, this isn't Duck Dynasty. I can't just scrap or mostly replace a $30k car after a few weekends of tearing up gravel and back country dirt roads. Honestly, even if I had the means, I doubt I could bring myself to waste money like that. YOUR car is most certainly built and owned for the purpose of flying through gravel and tearing up rally roads. That's awesome. I'm sure you thoroughly enjoy that, and I'm sure I would to...in YOUR car, or something similar. MY car is not your car or something similar when it comes to rally racing or off road driving. That's just the truth. This is definitely not a slam against you, as you bought a car you liked for a specific purpose and so did I. But for you to act like we're idiots for not wanting to drive on gravel is pretty unfair and unrealistic. I don't act like you're a moron for running your car around in gravel even though it's still a nice car. I don't spend as much time as my comrade cleaning and de-swirling my car, but I do like to keep it clean and looking good. I don't see anything wrong with that.

For once I didn't take the time to rant my feelings, but since the can has been opened.... I couldn't resist. Honestly, it's said a lot but easily dismissed. We all buy our cars for our own reasons. If you want to bag it, bag it. If you want to rally and thrash it, do it. No one can stop you from doing what you want to do with or to your car, but yourself. As long as you're having fun doing it and enjoying the company you're with, keep at it! I love Derrick's car. To me it's a show-worthy daily driver! Chris, your car is friggin insane!! I'd give anything to have that rally car! It's amazing in and of itself! This is a place for the ENTHUSIAST. We are all passionate about our cars in one way or another. Let's not get into throwing mud at each other when we're all playing in the same mud pit! Just making sure we are all on the same page, poking comments aside, we all want to enjoy our cars in our own way. When you find another that shares in the same ideals, it's that much more fun. Let's keep it fun people!
